1. Do I require a physician’s referral to perform a sleep assessment with Bayside Sleep Solutions?
Bayside Sleep Solutions requires a physician referral to perform a sleep assessment on all patients. If a patient contacts us without having a physician referral, a healthcare professional in our office will assist you in the appropriate steps to obtain the required documentation.
2. What happens after I have been referred to Bayside Sleep Solutions for a sleep assessment?
After the referral is received, we will contact you to schedule a comprehensive sleep assessment. During this initial sleep assessment, patients complete a detailed medical questionnaire and are instructed on the use of the overnight testing equipment. The sleep recording device is called an Ambulatory Sleep Recorder or a Level 3 Sleep Study device. Patients take the apparatus home for one - two nights and then return it to be analyzed. The results are then sent to a board certified sleep physician for interpretation.
3. How long will it take to get the results of the sleep study?
Turnaround time for interpretation of results is normally 3 business days, unless extenuating circumstances arise. Once the study has been interpreted, the results are sent to your referring physician within 2 business days.
4. I have completed a sleep assessment with Bayside Sleep Solutions, what happens next?
Should the sleep study results indicate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (positive results), Bayside Sleep Solutions will request a therapy prescription from the referring physician. Therapy initiation appointments are scheduled upon receipt of the therapy prescription. If the study does not indicate OSA (negative results), patients are encouraged to follow up with their referring physicians to investigate other treatment options or remedies for their medical concerns.
5. I have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), what happens now?
After Bayside Sleep Solutions has received the therapy prescription for positive airway pressure therapy from your referring physician, we may proceed with a therapy initiation appointment. Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy is the gold standard for treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). A therapy initiation appointment generally takes approximately one hour. During this appointment, medically trained and certified health care professionals will review your test results and provide education on the use of the equipment and appropriate cleaning techniques. In addition, we will also discuss our follow up program and compliance review schedule and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
6. I have invested in my health by pursuing PAP therapy for treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), what happens now?
Healthcare professionals at Bayside Sleep Solutions will frequently monitor your usage and compliance remotely to ensure that you are effectively being treated and compliant with therapy. We will also schedule routine follow up appointments to verify the effectiveness of treatment. Patients are encouraged to call or email at any time if they have questions or concerns. Bayside Sleep Solutions will also relay compliance reports and therapy summaries to your physician on a regular basis.
7. Will my private insurance plan cover the cost of the therapy machine, humidifier, mask and required accessories?
Most insurance companies provide some amount of coverage towards treatment of OSA. However, every provider and individual plan is different. It is the patient’s responsibility to inquire about their individual available coverage. A healthcare professional in our office can assist you with submitting a pre-authorization of benefits to confirm available coverage amounts and limits. It is important to note that any balance or percentage not covered by individual private insurance plans will be at the expense of the patient.
8. How often should I be replacing my therapy mask and accessories?
Manufacturers suggest that interfaces (masks), tubing and humidifier chambers last approximately one year with regular daily use and by following routine cleaning recommendations. Clinical evidence suggests and encourages patients to replace their mask and other required accessories every 6 months. Please check with your insurance provider to determine approved mask and accessory replacement coverage. Provider coverage may vary depending on individual plans.
9. How do I clean my mask, equipment and accessories?
During the therapy initiation appointment, cleaning instructions will be discussed and copies of manufacturer recommendations will be provided for reference. Humidifier chambers, interfaces (masks), headgear, and tubing should be cleaned routinely with a mild dishwashing detergent or laundry soap and left to air dry, out of direct sunlight. Please note that manufacturers recommend using distilled water in the humidifier chamber.
10. Does Bayside Sleep Solutions offer warranty on therapy devices and interfaces (masks)?
The specific manufacturers of the therapy devices and masks provide the warranty. The warranty for the PAP therapy machines are 3 years from the date of purchase. The warranty for mask interfaces is 90 days from original date of purchase.
